Some articles are found on the APCUG website, contributed by other computer groups. With a six-page newsletter there is not enough space to include complete copies to share, however, the Webmaster has arranged to display them here. I will attempt to update them monthly. As an experiment, this is your chance to read some of them. Here is a list of what I wish I had room for. Enjoy. Ed.

MAC Tips In a Mac computer, over time you may get tired of using the “Admin Password” and want to change to a new one.

Music - Capture It, Organize It, & Enjoy It Music in the past was captured and made available on analog sources and played back on analog devices. Enough of the past, now on to the digital music age.

Neat Things - Flash Drives Let’s spend some time examining some of the things you can do with a flash drive other than mere data storage.

Nybbles & Bits The touchpad on my notebook computer has a vertical scroll area at the right side of the pad. I had no problems using the vertical scroll until I upgraded to Win 7 at which point, it stopped working.

OAG Joines Facebook Generation This is the Old Analog Guy with Part 2 of my story about joining the Facebook generation.
I need to warn you that I am a novice at this social networking phenomenon—just in case it isn’t obvious.

Shared View - Skype A few Quad Cities Computer Society SIG leaders have been using Microsoft SharedView and Skype to allow participation from members remotely. We have been practicing with small test groups; and although SharedView is limited to 15 participants at one time we would like to provide detailed written instructions to all members.

Soluto Anti-Frustration Software Improves Boot Time In several past columns I have written about utilities that can speed up the computer boot process. Unwanted items can be stopped from automatically loading, but set to load upon demand. The process may sound complex, but it is very simple with the information provided by this new utility, "Soluto Anti-Frustration Software (beta)".

Things, Thinglets The Bad Guys are after Your Money. Well, that’s nothing new. Just as knowing the “computer language” is good to assist communication when seeking help or offering help to others, so is knowing the definition of words to describe cybercrime. Just to better understand the nomenclature of cyber assaults, one has to be able to understand the lingo. I researched the Internet (some very helpful “e-letters”) and came up with this handy list.

Windows 7 Tech Tips Have you ever wanted or needed information about the hardware in your computer? Did you know that Windows 7 contains a command that can provide you with a list of your hardware components including memory information? It does and it is very easy to explore and to save to a file. There are other helpful little bits of information hidden in the recesses of Win7, so let’s take some time to explore a few of them.

WUBI The Windows-based Ubuntu Installer (WUBI) is a program that allows you to install and remove Ubuntu-Linux from within Microsoft Windows (98, 2000, XP, Vista, or Windows 7). WUBI automatically creates a dual boot option that lets a Microsoft Windows user try Ubuntu without risking any data loss due to disk formatting or partitioning. Normally, installing Ubuntu or any version of Linux on a system that is also running Windows Is intimidating and very risky. Total failure to boot Windows is a common result. WUBI to the rescue.
